  • It’s not the algorithms people oppose, it’s the way they are trained within a capitalist system (infringement of many copyrights without compensation), they way they are being marketed as a living mind that can basically befriend us and take a mental load off of us (they can’t and it’s problematic to humans who allow them to try), and they way they’re being used an excuse to buy up the wntire world’s capacity for computing so that rich tech oligarchs can force us all onto the cloud services for all computing in the future.

I think if at the very least they weren’t bulldozing people’a home and poisoning their drinking water in order to forever capture all technology and then rent it back to us we might have a more favorable view of the possibilities, but so far Big Tech has done almost nothing but try to find ways to make individuals and enterprise addicted to their Mechanical Turk in order to take advantage of us.

  • There is a difference between an AI doing a security review (which they have become quite accomplished) and generating code that gets committed into the codebase.

Again, how does one verify that the code it has generated isn’t some verbatim chunk of copyrighted code that it happened to be trained on, and it turned out to be the best fit? There’s no guarantee that a model will not do this, even if instructed.

Also, content generated by AI models has already been deemed uncopyrightable, and this includes code. So are some larrtsmof the Linux kernel now able to be copied freely without GPL restrictions? How can you license code or executables compiled from said code if you do not hold the copyright on it?

  • If doesn’t stop at ads. Someone with all the data - remember this includes enterprise - can predict markets. They can get ahead of new inventions. They can insider trade. They can pick winners and losers. They can censor unfavorable articles. They can swing elections.

Why do you think they push for laws to force you to ID yourself online at all times? Why do you think they push for backdoors in encryption? And, conveniently, both of those things also make cloud platforms an easier way to enforce compliance, as well as providing them with full access.

The techbros are building a panopticon for total control, not just to sell more ads. It’s WAY more nefarious.

  • They need power first, and a third part is never going to get that, just like this has NEVER WORKED INT HE LAST 80 FUCKING YEARS.

This is our very last chance to have a country and you’re pulling out the “actually a vote for Jill Stein would be a really smart thing for our democracy” shit?

Give me a break. Not ever ever falling for it again. Democrats have been leading way too far right since a bunch of Chamber of Commerce assholes got together and formed the DLC and now CAP and Third Way, and they have been pushing the party to the right since the early 1980s while posturing as the kindhearted progressives.

Enough is enough, we are taking OUR party back from the hands of corporate greed and you can go form a centrist party if you want. Democrats get called lefty socialist commies all the time for openly stating progressive positions while rarely ever following through. It’s time to follow through.

  • This is why they want the “AI revolution” to make computing too expensive for anyone but them. It’s about way more than control of copyright, more than seizing the means of production for themselves: they want to be able to control narratives, censor the press (established journalism and independent blog/forum posting and socials), and monitor individuals and groups that may oppose them or present dissenting viewpoints. They want summaries they can control, they want one click censorship, and they want us to rent the privilege from them, creating a permanent information-peasant class. They want insider information on markets, they want to know voter sentiment, they want to sway investors and politics to their whims via system prompts.

We already saw Elon try it (with hillariously bad results) when Grok wouldn’t shut up about “white genocide” in South Africa. Elon is just such a spectacular failson grifter that his plan had no nuance and was plainly obvious.

But now we know for sure.
