I’m rather glad I’ve gotten out of tech.
I expect AI is going to come for every role there is and turn it into being a prompt monkey.
However, I can always turn a wrench!

SWE saw the same arc and now were at Andy Yen saying that a humans job isn’t to use LLMs to write good code. It’s to help LLMs so they can write good code.
That’s what’s coming down the pipeline for, quite literally, every single knowledge worker unless something is done.

This, people need to remember that the goal is to complete remove labor power.

The goal is to get to the point where, quite literally, every single job is replaced. The drawings being generated suck now but without organized labor it’s going to be hard to argue when they stop sucking.
Just look at what happened to SWEs

It has a side effect.
Religion is very good at giving people hope. Something secular ideologies have tried and failed at doing. We’re staring down the barrel of a pretty immense amount of suffering for many humans for a very long time. The religious, as they’ve demonstrated historically, will likely weather it better than the nonreligious. Psychologically speaking.

HAHAHAHAHAHA
Alright, so I can wrap my head around this. Your response to being told that no one is “stretching the law” because the law specifically protects this kind of speech is to say “nu uh?”
You’re claiming a religious exemption from the law that enables you to claim a religious exemption?

Yes it is.
Also, even if it wasn’t it wouldn’t matter, legally speaking. The EEOC guarantees protections whether or not an organization has tax exempt status.

The guys a humanist.
I can hear your trilby hat flapping in the wind from all the way over here.

Reasonable compromises must be made. I won’t lie to you, being someone that spent the better part of their career performing manual labor I would find it hard to believe you have spent any extended amount of time working a farm.
The share of people that want to perform, very specifically, back breaking labor is small compared to the number of people that would prefer to do literally anything else. We can make accommodations for that small number bit automating plowing but not science is a reasonable compromise.

Sounds about right.
My folks are currently working on a expansion to their deck that would add an open lower wooden “terrace” surrounding the primary one. They showed me this by sending me a bunch of pictures, AI generated, of what it will look like. The problem is the pictures are fundamentally not of their deck.
See, their house sits on the bottom of a rather large hill and the deck is actually against the primary driveway to get into the home (the front door is basically unused). The deck is actually at a lower elevation to a major portion of the driveway, something not shown in the “reference” images. In order to create this step-down deck expansion they would basically have to carve out roughly a third of their or otherwise a major portion of the expansion would be functionally underground.
They have purchased the wood and cement for the extension and I haven’t the heart to tell them its fucked.

At some point we will need to break Javon’s paradox.

I think at some point in the unregulated dystopian path we are on the only use actual artists and creators will have is to create real content for future LLM training. Companies will pay artists to churn out real media content primarily for LLM consumption
Thanks! I hate it! Dude this shit sucks. What’s funny is its easy to see how LLMs and AI could be a huge boon for humans, just not now. We’re just not at a point where they can be used to empower vice destroy.
Maybe one day, but I’m really not seeing it happening any time soon.

Hear hear. Convivial technology is the answer.

I would love it if the UX was just a bit better. I don’t like that the primary interaction is natural language personally. It would be cool if LLM interaction was through a DSL like a LISP. Would make the experience somewhat more appealing and, in my case at least, a bit more user friendly

Probably, which is depressing.
I’m told it’s useful for things that aren’t searching for things on the internet or performing groundbreaking theoretical mathematics research. I’m starting to think my interests are too boring for it to really touch anything other than coding, which as I’ve said elsewhere I have ceded and am now exiting the field I am in.

Dog I’m dying for someone to give me a use case. Really I am.
I work in a field that kind of straddles the line between tech and industrial systems. On the tech side of the house people eat this shit up because it can code. On the industrial side its crickets.
I’ll be honest, I think there’s a point of diminishing returns on convenience. Agent swarms can do what for me? Book an airline? Answer an email? The jump from sending letters to writing emails was massive. The jump from sending emails to asking a robot to send an email is miniscule. I have very few problems that can be solved with a computer and, honestly, I think that may be the case for a lot of people.
Unless these things can put out assassinations there utility to me is limited to “searches for things good”.

So the image is not used. It’s done for fun? I suppose that’s fine if they’re just showing it to you for vibes but I don’t see how that would be different from me asking a tiler to do my shower tile-work, telling them what I would like, and them showing me a meme on reddit. Cool I guess? Please return to the tiling task?
Honestly I would prefer they just send over a sample. Why get a pretend image of what it will look like when I could just see a tile for free?
And why would I use AI for the CAD work? I know how to use CAD. I suppose if I was in a situation where someone had a gun to my head and said that I had to render a sink fixture in under 45 seconds I might be motivated to speed up that process but I can’t think of a time in my life where I faced bodily harm if I did not complete a creative task quickly.
EDIT: Nevermind, I can think of a few times I have faced bodily harm based on the speed I could complete arbitrary creative tasks.

But like… Why? I’ve had work done on homes before and did not request a image… What is the purpose of the image? Do the tradesmen use the image to perform their work? If so why not model it in CAD? If not, why use it at all?
Why would I play a game a human didn’t make? This is actual hedonism. Just raw masturbatory dopamine seeking.
