  • It is neither factually wrong, nor does it lack precision.

What about abortion and the one-child policy? What about the system of state ownership of industries and strict control of private enterprise? Or state-imposed pricing of medications? Would you confidently describe those as ‘conservative’ policies?

Every word uttered by a conservative is deception or manipulation

What about Winston Churchill, Angela Merkel or Konrad Adenauer?

Conservatives have been working hard for decades to somehow re-define fascism, communism, socialism, marxism, racism and antisemitism as “progressive” ideologies.

Have they really? Donald Trump has been pushing UBI has he…? I didnt know he identified as a ‘racist’?

Communism is neither conservative nor its opposite, progressive

Good, I’m glad we agree on something.

It is possible for conservatives to govern in a communist framework (ex: China, Russia, North Korea).

Umm. If that were the case then you’d think there’d be plenty of examples. Which Chinese or Soviet-era leader would you specifically describe as being ‘conservative’. Not ‘socially conservative’, just ‘conservative’…?

Outside of specific university classes, the most commonly accepted modern western socio-political context of the word “conservative” is congruent with social conservatism.

Is it really. What about the ‘Conservative’ parties of UK, Norway and Denmark that legalised gay marriage?

  • China is a one-party psuedo-communist state, which is ultra far-left - the polar opposite of political conservatism. Yes, gay marriage is not permitted, but thats due to social conservatism.

You’re correct in saying China is socially conservative, but saying its conservative implies a right-wing political ideology. It lacks nuance and implies something that is factually wrong.

Russia - yes very conservstive. Soviet Union was politically far-left but modern Russia is basically christo-fascist. So its culturally, politically and religiously conservative.

  • You’re framing it in the American context though. Mixing politics and religion is taboo in most western democracies. And, religious conservatism isn’t the same as political conservatism.

Ireland is a good example - devoutly Catholic but with very liberal politics. Gay marriage has broad support.

UK - pretty much godless and very liberal - but historically politics has been dominated by the Conservative party. Broad support for same-sex marriage, and it was actually brought in by a Conservative government.

China - authoritarian single-party system. Follows Communist ideology with a capitalist bent. Religion - taboo, government controlled, doesn’t feature in politics at all. The important difference is that its culturally very Asian. Even eastern democracies like South Korea and Japan have a tricky relationship with gay rights.

If that were to change you’d imagine CCP would support gay marriage as it poses no threat to ideology or party policies.

  • Scotland. Fucked. The terrifying thing I realised recently is how I can see the sharp decline in living standards pre-and-post covid. If we dont get a grip of it we’re backsliding toward Dickensian levels of poverty and deprivation.

Other thing I noticed recently - how most of our short-term problems can be linked to that cunt Trump. Iran war, tariffs, Ukraine etc. I say this to highlight to the Americans in the room that your political choices have implications far beyond your own borders. Theres fuck all I can do about him, but plenty you can do.
