Technology@lemmy.world•Ouch: The Raspberry Pi 5 just hit an eye-watering $385English
3·2 days agoA mini PC and an Arduino is the ticket.
I’ve also had good luck with Orange PIs. Just checked pricing and they’ve gone up but not pushing anywhere near $400. I know Banana PIs and a few others are out there but I am less familiar with those.

News@lemmy.world•Hakeem Jeffries Says Impeachment, Getting Even Aren’t Priorities
171·2 days agoThere it is, folks. The Democratic party apathy we knew would come.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad we have some check and balances back. But anyone who thinks things will turn around in January need look no further than this one comment.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your advice for second-level around-the-house tools?
2·5 days agoSecond the powered auger. First time the house main septic drain got plugged cost me $350 to have a plumber fix it.
Second time cost me $300 to buy the auger and do it myself.
There hasn’t been a third time but it will cost me zero. It does take up a bunch of space in the garage though which is a pain in the ass.

News@lemmy.world•Stock Market Bloodbath Spikes Fears of AI Bubble Bursting
10·6 days agoIf microwaves are the analogy for AI then I’m good with it. In my house today I have an oven, a stovetop, a counter top toaster oven/air fryer thingy, and a microwave. Each serves its own purpose but none replaces the other completely.
If in the future AI is a tool that sits and waits it’s turn for me to use it for the thing it is best at then I think it will have a place.
If instead it costs a subscription fee, is forced into every other appliance, replaces jobs en mass, and accelerates the downfall of the climate I’m gonna pass.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI Mania Is Eviscerating Global Decision-MakingEnglish
27·8 days agoAny coherent question about how it’s going, what the goal is, who is using it, constitutes an inadvertent attack on the chain of command responsible for the work because there are no good answers to anything.
Literally made me shutter. Describes my daily existence to a tee.
€1.900 is $2,133 in American, according to a quick Google ask.
Agreed. Can’t justify spending that on a phone. And unfortunately, many others will feel the same, which will result in low sales and it being declared a failure, putting another nail in the coffin for privacy focused consumer products.
