I’ve started going to as many local industry meetups as I can in my city so I can get connections. It really is a who-you-know market now.

It’s interesting that Filen mentions you might not be able to use the free starter plan if you’re on a VPN when you register. Wonder why they are keeping track of that? Abuse prevention maybe, but it’s weird they do it that way considering they sell a privacy-focused product.

I’m more of a drop F# giver myself.

First time I’ve seen AliasVault. The built-in email server to create aliases and receive email is cool. No need to use a separate service. Can anyone who uses AliasVault share your experience? I know it’s FOSS. I can’t find any info if they’ve been independently audited. If it’s great, I’ll switch from Bitwarden.

Dip the buy!

Right?? Once the hold music starts, I set my phone to speaker at a low volume just so I can hear it playing while I place it on my desk. Then someone finally picks up and I don’t notice they’re already talking.

I’m fine with plastic replaceable parts as long as they don’t make contact with the coffee, water, and heating element.

E2E encryption doesn’t matter when you can’t trust the actual host in the first place.
Not referring to Tuta specifically, but isnt that the point of E2E encryption? That you have assurance even if you don’t trust the host? Unless they don’t demonstrate and publish what encryption mechanism they use of course.

If you’re a content creator that uses that shit in public, fuck you. At least the people who still use cameras/phones are obviously filming and you can avoid them.
Nowhere in the manifesto did they mention that security is still a priority and not an afterthought despite wanting to move faster and faster with AI. That is the problem. I guess that’s why he’s a CTO and not a CISO. But you would think a company that sells security and privacy as its product would have security-centric folks all the way to top management.

In my experience and use-cases, they are pretty much the same. IVPN has a bit of an edge with bypassing geo restrictions with streaming services. It seems their IPs are less known than Mullvad.

Password manager - Bitwarden (for now). They might enshittify soon because of their new CEO, but for now the technology is good.
VPN - IVPN. I was a previous Mullvad user. They were great, but you’re probably already aware of their own controversy. Not free obviously, and you probably know a free VPN is a bad idea.
Authenticator - Ente is free and with cloud backups.

It’s infuriating that the “consultant” got away without any consequences. At this point it’s on the Sri Lankan government to find a way to get her home.

I think you’re misunderstanding how .world works. Lemmy.world doesn’t mean it’s open to everything, that’s just the instance name. They actually block and defederate from a lot of communities and instances.
If you want to see everything and judge for yourself, just pick an instance with a minimal defederation policy. That’s why I picked .zip so I can curate my feed the way I want it.
Before signing up for an instance, scroll down and read their instance policies so you understand what you’re signing up for.

People who join the forum threadiverse and actually stay are likely ok with how federation affects the experience. The ones who don’t like it eventually leave and go back to centralized ones. Pushing to centralize something that has decentralization as its primary purpose is pointless. “The rest of us” isn’t accurate based on the interactions you’re getting in this post. It’s you who is the outlier.
Set your client to not download/show embedded images, so only the text part gets loaded.

This doesn’t work for stuff like tickets where there is a convenience fee for them to not print you a physical ticket. So you’re paying for their convenience.

iVPN is a good alternative. What concerns me is his disregard for proper security review of AI generated code, because that is one of the stupidest things a company focused on security and privacy can do. Even if one has no issue with his previous remarks about Trump, this new one is legitimately a security issue that affects the product itself.

I wish. We lost a couple of great folks in my team this month, and I might even be next on the chopping block. They’re not gonna stop until they literally sink. And by that time, rehiring people won’t be needed anyway.
“Was it the ramen?”, I’m thinking as I’m shitting liquid in a grocery store restroom as I’m typing this.
