“Old web” things were replaced by VC-backed apps because the apps had a better user experience, not just because big tech conspired to kill the old web. People wanted to use social media instead of RSS feeds because social media is easier to use than RSS feeds. Ditto for Discord replacing IRC. People here sometimes act like IRC declined because of a bigtech conspiracy against it. IRC declined because you had to message a freaking bot once a month to keep your nickname.
Wayland and systemd solve a lot of problems and are overall a step in the right direction.
Ditto for Matrix replacing Discord. Stop explaining that it’s technically better, almost feature parity, etc. Most users don’t care and the network effect assures nothing will happen. Just make it easier to use with an equally polished UI. FOSS enthusiasts (I’m one) don’t seem to contain a single UI expert along their multitudes.
do any matrix implementations yet support screen sharing (a separate video stream with an audio stream attached) or soundboards (either a separate audio stream or something to tell the client to play a sound already on said client)?
