Jeffrey Weisheit died by lethal injection for the 2010 murders of two young children in his care. His lawyers had tried to halt his execution after a drug pharmacy was in the spotlight.

Indiana carried out its first execution of the year early Thursday after lawyers for the condemned man failed in their bid to stop it, despite new details emerging about the state’s secretive process of obtaining lethal injection drugs.

Jeffrey Weisheit, 50, was put to death at Indiana State Prison shortly after midnight for the 2010 murders of two young children in a house fire, state officials said. He had no last words and was pronounced dead 45 minutes later.

The state does not generally allow media witnesses to attend, and Weisheit’s legal team could not immediately be reached for comment about his execution.

Sounds like a lawyer looking for any and all possible defenses for their client. Had it been successful, and delayed the execution, then who cares if the reason sounds silly
