20 year old patents would be an improvement time-wise over 100+ years of copyright, but a horrible thing given how much more annoying it is to get them invalidated.

Creating a shittiness free tech ecosystem is pretty straightforward, the question is where do you get the money to do so without the expectation of ever increasing profit.

I wonder if you can trip this on corporate subscriptions just by examining standard code so I could finally have an excuse to not use it at work.

People were mad at the Steam Greenlight system, so when Valve listened and opened the doors to pre-AI slop, then they started whining about their games being buried in a sea of shit. I can’t blame Valve for taking a cautious approach.

With the recent reverse engineering achievements, rather than zero financial payoff, it might be even be negative for the gaming sector in particular.

Venezuelans were repeatedly told they were trading one dictator for another with Trump by literally every other Latin American that isn’t a right wing dickwad, and their response was to tell every other Latin American to shut up because “they don’t know what it’s like” (never mind the fact that nearly every Latin American country had to survive through US backed dictatorships) or that they knew they were going to take the oil but that it was a step in the right direction 🙄.
Venezuelan online discourse now loves to shit on Delcy’s puppet government while conveniently forgetting to mention who keeps it propped up.

I feel this is the kind of thing why, in an ideal world, we would all form cooperatives for any service where it’s not feasible or economical to deploy infrastructure twice. And then refuse to buy from any non-coop service provider.

Fully featured Open source drivers for all popular devices. RINA implementations for all major platforms and architectures.

No, LLMs only contain a bunch of numbers that predict which word is likely to follow the previous ones. Their output resembles knowledge simply because the most likely combination of words is one meant to convey information.

This is why my hope is on Redox OS. I wish it would get a bit more resources.

I’m not arguing about what is technically possible. I’m arguing about what is practically possible: Samsung (biggest market share) supports LC3 for example, but they can also break it and replace it with their custom codecs to lock people into their ecosystem. Making Sony LDAC the only real choice, and there’s no telling when they will break that too. This means that in practice, only SBC and to a lesser extent AAC and SBC-XQ are the only codecs you know for certain will work.

Only if both your device and your earbuds both support aptX Lossless, which in practice means it almost never gets used because Samsung (holder of most of the market) does not pay for the licence or enable it in their phones, and the Chinese brands only do so for specific tiers and processors.

AFAIK there’s an upper limit to how good can they sound anyway because Bluetooth is kinda crap for audio.
I feel like the only real way to do AI clean rooming is to have the AI run the decompiler, clean up the output if necessary, and then write a spec document that incorporates no part of the code only a description of what it does and its constraints.
You then reimplement the code by hand, only reading the spec.
