  • Well true it’s not gonna happen “very” soon. You’ll basically need source code for games that generalize this stuff, game engine code bases that can encompass various game styles. And presumably a lot of “data worker” work which translate existing games into design doc so it can be used for training.

But most AAA games share very similar gameplay elements just with different art and music and characters and story, one or two new features. Much of the code base is like “player / camera controller” and then a lot of items and weapons and levels and encounters.

So you don’t need to manage an entire colossal code base. But if you imagine just a selection of very strict genres, like first person shooter or realtime strategy game, this provides a rather restricted code base where most is art generation and that is definitely possible. Even MMORPGs like WoW.

You might still need or want e.g. a concept artist that designs characters or supervises art styles. But it’s going to be possible for hobbyists to do the work of multi million dollar studios. With a little side of slop of course lol. No doubt “handmade” games still are potentially better but due to budget constraints have not often been and in this future scenario just won’t be commercially viable. It’s going to be patreon funded game designer crews. And bye bye fucking corporate games industry.

  • Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of a military-grade version of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite service that Ukraine relies on

HOW? StarSHIELD is a separate satellite network under US military control and with additional capabilities. Musk can’t order the US military around. That’s a ridiculous claim without explaining how he would do this, and without addressing the sheer madness of how this would be allowed.

The whole reporting around this relies on confusing and conflating Starlink with Starshield. This is honestly disinformation because it leaves readers more disinformed about how starlink / starshield is used. Which allows the preposterous claim to go unchallenged and people eating it up.

Also, no globally operating civilian satellite network should ever be used for war.

  • Afaik self driving delivery robots or robo-taxies is relatively distant from LLMs. Or maybe there will be breakthroughs by merging these two.

But yeah the amount of labor you can actually save by using LLMs is quite small so far. It’ll only get better at that, but maybe there will be a technological wall. But maybe not.

Most of the harm being done right now comes from the AI bubble and crazy high marketing budget that you have to understand is mostly aimed at businesses, presentations where they dazzle and hypnotize the C-suits with magic beans. So AI psychosis is real on both sides of the spectrum.

In that sense fuckai can be seen as a useful distraction from actually talking about either useful regulation (because even that is seen as heresy), discussion about dangers (because LLMs aren’t really intelligent at all it’s heresy too) or capitalism as the root of all evil. And it’s useful to further divide and conquer and create new fault lines within the masses that need to be controlled.

  • Those are some very interesting ideas! I’d love to see this for city planning. Maybe China lol. The “Urban planning in communist states” had similar benefits but our current technology e.g. just smartphone apps could also help or optimize or solve a lot of these issues for free.

But I don’t think these robots actually need to be expensive. I believe a local model on a smartphone could basically do this already and then you just have an RC car with a different gearing and a box. Like if a country had state owned facilities with regular open optimization challenges this would cost basically nothing.

A lot of things should be rethought. And thanks to climate change and migration we will have to build a lot of cities.

  • I mean yes, but climate change is also a reality and presumably most deliveries are done via car. Or maybe scooter. And for scooter or bike this is also a dangerous job in traffic.

This kid is the difference between idealism and reality.

I would also say that it is ideology vs amorality, which is the prevailing system of belief currently in the west, and increasingly so. People do not believe that democracy works any more so you do not see any attempt at demands for regulations any more. That is not realism, that is fatalism.

Liberalism / neoliberalism and the “international liberal order” can (I believe) be understood as a system that only allows capitalism to control government and society, and fundamentally no ideology. Ideology only serves as a facade or shield or distraction but there is no core.

So the hysteria and willingness to abandon reality we see from fuckai (and other recent dividing frameworks) reflect that. Maybe it is even something that is deliberately pushed by the dark enlightenment around Peter Thiel, to erode belief in and functionality of democracy. But that is speculation.

And even Musk understands that we’re going to need UBI the more automation and as demand plummets due to poverty.

  • “I know they’re taking the jobs of human delivery workers and so, I have been protesting them whenever I saw them by standing in front of them and preventing them from going forward,” Marvin said.

I mean fuck. Do we want people working as delivery drones? Really? The other post in fuckai about this doesn’t even mention she’s been doing this for month which obscures why she’s been arrested.

And climate change is real you know? A small robot takes little energy compared to a full sized car.

Ideally delivery robots should be state owned and accountable to democratic processes. They are a valuable and useful innovation to solve logistic problems. A way to reshape how neighborhoods are build and planned and make them more energy efficient.

This dogmatic opposition to anything AI is really becoming more and more irrational, less and less grounded in facts and rational arguments. AI needs to be regulated. Like China currently does AI regulations best, but we can’t even imagine things like that any more because people just accept neoliberalism as the new world order and screaming is the only thing left to do apparently instead of demanding regulations or nationalization of certain AI infrastructure. Maybe this is linked to some kind of anti-democracy propaganda campaign. Divide and conquer, and don’t even let talk about regulation enter the public discussion.

  • Basically the problem is that Passkeys are designed to allow a particularly bad enshittification once everyone uses them. So it’s not about downsides of using them now, but about them being used in general and then abused.

I like the article and agree with the problem, but I’m skeptical that this works as a strategy to fix the problem. First off, individual responsibility or boycott doesn’t really work. Most people will just use what their phone gives. Second if the corporations do want to do this, they could implement it separately in their apps, like twitter or google chrome requiring quasi-attested “homebrew” passkeys stored in cryptoprocessors. Ultimately I do not think we have any power to prevent them from doing that.

The time of democracy and pluralism is over. We’re already seeing the author of the article being maligned and personally attacked for talking about AI - how dares he? On all fronts we have lost the culture war and lost power, economic power, information power like access to truth.

  • Disclaimer I’m very light on ML theory so may the community forgive me and the mods have mercy on me:

One perspective on a “liberal democracy” within which you would have democratic socialism might be: There are no ideological constraints except the chains of capitalism. Like that is the reality of western democracies today I think.

They might hold their nose and bla bla about far right and religious this or bad communist but everything goes. Nobody can censor anything because liberal values.

This means that fundamentally, those with the most power OUTSIDE of the state have the most power over the democracy. And that is the capitalists.

And the amount of influence capitalists or plutocrats or capitalist institutions or corporations have is vastly understated as to constitute a “big lie” a la Goebbels. Western democracies are ruled by an amoral “nonsentient amalgamated intelligence”. A million individuals all greeding for their own piece of the pie be it wealth or power or just making it to the next paycheck. The true form of the “chains of capitalism” is a slime mold growing inside our heads. No other ideology that actually exerts power is allowed.

So how are you going to implement democratic socialism? You can’t!

Nothing stops those with the most power from undermining you, fomenting sentiment, pushing propaganda and influencing the next election which will invariably be some neoconservative anti-commie bullshit.
