Not very high bandwidth, but it’s a start

Deleted my ProtonMail account last evening. Quoted the 404media article from yesterday and demanded his removal as CEO in my cancellation comment. For what it’s worth.
Hopefully if thousands of users do the same it might penetrate the veil of CEO-impunity.

Well… sometimes, in my view at least, centralization (or relatedly, government-run) things can be beneficial for society; specifically the things that aren’t easily profitable, yet are a net benefit to all.
Medical research (into cures, not profitable ‘treatments’ requiring a lifetime prescription); public roads; food safety standards-enforcement. These things might not be profitable, but we all want them, so it makes sense that government might run them on our behalf, eg. centralized rather than all of use needing to do our own medical research, or maintain our own roads, or check our food in case it’s been adulterated because no one sees a profit in keeping it healthy.
Agreed. The ones on the inside ring of the grift haven’t yet cashed out at what they think is “the top”. And until the backroom deals are signed which guarantee US 401ks and teacher pension funds will pay for all of the bailouts, they’ll keep all the plates spinning.

Well Fuck that guy. I have a free Protonmail account. I already contacted their support and quoted back Mr. Yen’s AI standpoint and my horror at the disrespect for his employees he showed, as the reasons why I’ll be closing my account today.
“Moving fast” and accepting “AI”-generated code without careful audits by humans is not compatible with security. Period. What an asshat. I will wait with full-on Schadenfreude the headlines in a few months: ‘ProtonMail and apps hacked, thousands of accounts exposed!’. Wait and see.

Just. Stop. Using. LLMs. They hallucinate lie unpredictably, and have biases put in by whomever controls them. Jeebus Cripes.
WE LIKE DA MOOOON 'CUZ IT IS CLOOOOSE TO USSSSSSS
I’m feeling fat and SASSY!

OK, so the article suggests he basically ‘re-discovered’ those edge, line and corner-detecting neurons in the optical cortex? (But as an analogue encoded in LLMs). If I remember anything from my college biology classes…
Big Deal™. It does diddly squat in addressing the ‘confidently incorrect’ hallucination / Bullshit-generator problem fundamental to LLMs.

Nevrr forget, Accenture used to be Arthur Anderson, of Enron infamy. They deserve any financial ruin they get, IMO.
“…We may see people starving in the streets some day while an oligarch throws a $500 million wedding.”
Already happening in sooo many parts of the world. Was before, but is worse now. Doesn’t invalidate the article at all, just felt a need to point it out.

Good to see the state of things, but it’s bloody depressing how pervasive this has become (unless the maintainers have really really reviewed all submissions to ensure they are a) understood fully and b) high-quality. But given the flood of PRs many projects get now I can’t help but think they’ll be overwhelmed and slop will just slip right through.
Obligatory “Fuck Kevin O’Leary”
