  • “AI needs to be able to work autonomously and continuously with less and less human babysitting. Your job is to identify problems that the LLM cannot solve on its own and help them not only solve them this time but be able to better solve them next time, not just for you but for everyone: repository-level context files, shared skills and prompts, and habit of ensuring that repeated failures trigger an investigation and a fix. Your job is to push the limits of what the LLM can do autonomously, step in for the things that it cannot, and always think of how you can improve the status quo.”

Forgot to add “so that we can fire you in a couple of years.” to the end.

  • the developers also admitted to the “loser thinking” quote in reddit but just glanced over it saying Andy will work on better communication.

The same Andy who also some years ago said

"Great pick by @realDonaldTrump. 10 years ago, Republicans were the party of big business and Dems stood for the little guys, but today the tables have completely turned. People forget that the current antitrust actions against Big Tech were started under the first Trump admin.”

There were many antitrust actions filed before Trump and during Biden (against Microsoft, IBM, standard oil etc). Calling Trump a friend of the little guys just because he added some more is either missing the mark completely at best, manipulative at worst. Tariffs, Trump coins, Melanie coins all were designed to funnel money from the little guys to the big guys. How do you trust the decisions of a person that makes such a comment so confidently. This is your typical run of the mill billionaire or wanna-be a billionaire thinking they have brilliant ideas on everything because they were successful in one venture.

  • Your reverse engineering argument might have a point but plagiarism regarding AI should be more obvious. Indeed AI is trained on the collective publicly available knowledge humans have deposited on the internet and then sold back to the same people for a fee without any acknowledgement let alone sharing of profits in someway. It is similar to the kind of unethical behaviour where some academic publishers are employing aggressive marketing strategies to sell public science back to public at high costs. Ofcourse there is still the argument that these AI companies are only charging for operational costs, which may be true for some. But I am willing to bet money that if LLMs becomes an integral part of the modern world then they will turn down this tap to a bare trickle at exorbitant prices. Sam Altman himself confessed as much (he said something along the lines of envisioning a future where AI becomes an on demand information and skill tap, you fill in the rest). Operating something at a loss is a known capitalistic strategy to get people used to your product and drive smaller competition out of market so in a decade or so you become the monopolistic owner of an essential service.

  • Yeah LLMs sure can code but it is really a soul crushing experience. You can use AI to learn technical things much faster than before (provided you occasionally cross check fishy claims) but then it also feels like “what is the point if AI can do it 100 times faster than me and only requires design handholding”. It is like playing a game in god mode, fun for a couple minutes but really boring afterwards.

Nevertheless I will still be doing advent of code on my own every year as long as it exists. People who use AI to solve the problems there can eat shit, thank you very much.
