Trying to discuss economics on Lemmy is an exercise in futility, but also the ‘value’ of some of these companies is basically fake money in my opinion.

In other news, Reddit stock is down a whopping 28% today.

Just be careful not to piss on any high-voltage components.

I’m sorry you have to deal with this. I’m sure it’s a real shock to have your well-honed craft pulled out from under you like this. My only advice is to stay in your industry as long as you can, even if it means being a full-time code reviewer. My gut tells me that there will be an over-reliance on LLMs followed by a crisis a few years from now when nobody can find experienced devs to either replace those retiring, or to fix whatever slop our infrastructure is running on by then. If you’re still in the business when that happens, you’ll be in a good spot.

It’s in the Orange Catholic Bible

Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind

The book Unsafe at Any Speed was partly responsible for the formation of both the US Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It won eight Oscars that year, including best screenplay.

I’m willing to bet that “90%” and “100%” have absolutely no concrete meaning here.

Oh wow, that’s so cool. Definitely worth the $2 trillion spent on AI so far.

The toxic waste scene fucked me up for a while.

My favorite quote from The Big Short:
In the years that followed, hundreds of bankers and rating agency executives went to jail. The SEC was completely overhauled, and Congress had no choice but to break up the big banks and regulate the mortgage and derivatives industries.
Just kidding. Banks took the money the American people gave them, and they used it to pay themselves huge bonuses, and lobby the Congress to kill big reform. And then they blamed immigrants and poor people, and this time even teachers.

I have an idea: they could package all the AI debt into securities and then sell it off in small pieces to individual investors. By spreading out the investment over many different loans, the risk of default will be greatly reduced. It’s not like ALL the AI companies are going to default all at once, right? Ha ha.

The hill I’m willing to die on is that “cyber” is short for cybersex, not cybersecurity or cyberspace as appropriated by the military.

What took them so long?

The judge’s logic is baffling:
“Here, every purchased print copy was copied in order to save storage space and to enable searchability as a digital copy,” Alsup wrote in his ruling. “The print original was destroyed. One replaced the other. And, there is no evidence that the new, digital copy was shown, shared, or sold outside the company.”
AI companies are using the book to create a commercial product. Just because that product isn’t an exact copy of the book doesn’t mean they’re not abusing the copyright.
Also, the more difficult your Linux distribution is to use, the more respect you’ll receive.
E.g. Ubuntu < NixOS < LFS
