Try filen. I put some work stuff there. Though I’m now using it as offsite backup because my self host seafile is what i prefer to use for the day to day

I did a quick review of my options and landed on ivpn too.
I thought obscura sounded interesting but it’s us based and requires mullvad alongside it.
That is what gives me pause with vaultwarden… the need for bitwarden proprietary apps.
Edit: i stand corrected they are not proprietary. Dont know if they could kill compatibility for vaultwarden if they chose to. That is a better explanation of my concern.

4·2 days agoCan confirm it works. I have jf over tailscale.
I use my own domain but could be done using tailscale urls if you dont want to deal with certificates, split horizon dns, etc.

1·5 days agoProbably wouldnt be a road for me, but im probably not a good indicator of other people.
My homelab is dark to the public internet, no exposed ports, no public IP, etc. My domain is an mx only zone.
Self hosting email would require too many fundamental changes to the security posture.

I hope the US survives the policies of the current administration and the abuses of power that are sad hallmarks of the US tech industry.Like i said, the approach is intriguing.

2·6 days agoLooks intriguing but looks like an american company - that immediately makes it a non-starter
My drivers are more focussed on the proposition and payment profile
Private payment is harder. I dont have solution for that except that if i dont truat them enough to use a virtual card then they need to do more work to earn trust if they want paid.
Its not about making a channel that wont pay enough, just picking one with a respectful design that doesnt rely on dark patterns. That should not be that difficult. It is mostly satisfued with a simple one time transaction.
If people cant receive my money in a way that is acceptable to me, they dont get it. I dont do recurring fees, i dont want platform accounts. If you cant just make a sale or receive a donation without those things, you are part of the problem.

Europe@feddit.org•US tech giants warn Europe that ditching US tech giants could cost €115BEnglish
2·20 days agoCosts are probably negotiated but per 1,000 employees, most businesses will be paying somewhere between £500,000 and £1,500,000 each year just for Microsoft 365. So I’d estimate the UK civil service at a similar sum £450-500m per year for desktop services. Thats before any Azure or AWS costs
For 27 EU member states, an assumption of €10B / year leaving the EU and going into the us tech giant economy doesnt seem crazy.
So the scare tactic €115b is over 5-6 years. While it would take 10-12 years to save that from fees paid by the central government services alone. Thats a 50% offset immediately on top of the advantages of keeping those vast sums within the EU economic zone. I reckon local authorities and other public services across the wider public sector could offset the other 50%

I don’t use monnet or instagram etc. but i wouldn’t hate either of those possibilities.
See I bought a couple of yubikeys, but have zero passkeys becuase I’ve yet to encounter any service that lets me choose to store their passkey on said yubikeys. How do you do it?
Seems to me that if I could tie them to yubikeys (ideally on two keys), remote attestation wouldn’t risk me allowing any third party to assert influence or control over my choices of technology - is that right?
Amazon is probably the most visible example of trying to create passkeys all the damn time, but it never offers any user choice about where this passkey would be (my best guess is that its on the computer and tied somehow to my login). I’d happily use passkeys with yubikey, but I’m not willing to set up a different passkey on each computing device I use. Thatś a housekeeping/maintenance headache I dont want or need and it would be made all but impossible if I give up visibility and control over what devices are ‘authorised’ and how.
I hate to think how many people have inadvertently set up passkeys on devices that they rarely use.

0·10 months agoYour comment is more technical than I can properly follow, but this all reminds me of the tarpits I read about a year ago. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/01/ai-haters-build-tarpits-to-trap-and-trick-ai-scrapers-that-ignore-robots-txt/
Is that more usable? (Genuine curiosity from someone who would shed no tears if the plagiarism machines experienced resistance)

My mistake. Sorry
