This sentiment is a lot more common than you think. While it is true there’s no atheists in the foxholes, most of us were christians who believed we were going to Hell. Like most of us saw ourselves as the bad guys. It was pretty uncommon for guys there to think they’re good in any way.

I will say, as an old and fat and gay millennial, Gen Z actually does make me optimistic with this trend I noticed of a lot of them rejecting newer tech and going more analog.

I even know a few who tossed out their smartphones for dumbphones and some of my other Gen Z friends asked me for help on how to burn CDs.

I dunno, with how bad things are these days, this is something that gives me hope.

I banned my government issued transgender girlfriend from buying more games on Steam until she beat all the games she already owns.

My biggest fear is that one day we will achieve AGI and will have no idea we have. When you peek behind the curtain and see these are just algorithms, at their core, they become a lot less impressive.

If nothing else, at least push her to use Local AI models using something like ollama or odysseus or LMstudio. This helped get one other friend off AI because, guess what, running this on your own machine makes you feel the consequences of it.
