I would maybe hold off on choosing Bitwarden. Around the time they raised their pricing they started getting venture capitalist money so the enshittification there may be coming. As far as alternatives, the only other one I’ve used besides Proton is KeePass which could be make or break depending on how you setup the vault, I’d probably save it in something pCloud so you aren’t screwed should something happen to your server, but YMMV.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Looking for a user friendly replacement for Proton Mail + Proton Pass with alias generation
1·6 days agoI kind of looked around on the site, it kept mentioning fair use limits and that the number would be communicated effectively before any change, but I can’t see the current limit to email aliases and whatnot, if anyone can find that answer it’d be lovely.
I saw someone mention pCloud and thought I’d take a moment to point out that if you can afford a heftier upfront cost, pCloud has different levels of Lifetime plan and probably will have a decent Black Friday sale for it. That said, they could probably change the terms of that retroactively, I don’t know anything about the company itself, but still worth mentioning. Personally, I’d recommend something like on prem NextCloud (or similar) with backups going to pCloud. Bonus points for encrypting those backups with Cryptomator.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Proton hosts map of 300,000 Flock devices amid legal threats
2·13 days agoThis is official data from an API leak from last year, not supplemented with DeFlock/OSM data. Chances are that the camera is newer than when the leak took place. It also seems like more of a PR stunt than anything else. Hosting leaked data is more legally dubious than DeFlock being a map of real people saying “I saw this thing here.” Basically just Proton telling Flock “nah nah nah nah nah nah you can’t get me in my swiss alps.” To be clear, I’m all for them doing this, fuck Flock and all that.
I usually do the ones that have proper publishers, like the Wiley certification help books, comics, or the like, but yeah, there’s definitely been a reduction in quality, especially among the software bundles.
I was listening to an interview with Meredith Whitaker (Signal’s CEO) yesterday on the Futurology Podcast. Her response to the “I have nothing to hide” comment was to imagine being sat down in a room and given access to a database of every text you’ve ever sent. Imagine that searchable database is not just at your disposal. Every bad day you’ve ever had complaining about your boss to a coworker, people, especially lawyers, love to take things out of context.
Sorry, don’t have any sort of ham radio license or anything 😂

I’ve now seen aliasvault so many times I’m starting to be suspicious of it. Thankfully its only been in this community so I can acknowledge that I’m the problem and not them, but it just reminds me of Omarchy a few months back having never heard of it and suddenly every tech YouTuber is mentioning it. Again, I’m the problem, aliasvault seems promising.
