Having a dance background is super beneficial in that world, definitely keep pushing that! I don’t know how far into that career she is but some general advice I can share:

• Community is invaluable. Attend shows not just as a performer but as an audience member. Go to community events as well
• Don’t undersell yourself, it hurts both you and the community
• Keep an album of professional performance shots for promo
• Never stop being curious. As artists we never stop growing. Learn as many skills as possible, knowledge is never wasted - that includes skills like sewing, rhinestoning, prop building, hell even soldering. The more hats we can wear the better.

I’ll note that I’m specifically a fire and sideshow performer (occasionally burlesque) so I can only give specific advice on those.

I’ve been in the circus arts for nearly as long so it’s an easy switch for me. I have a well established career path forward. Granted there’s less money, but I’d rather have a lower income than continue to sell my soul to the slop overlords. I got laid off earlier this year too which gave me space to rethink my career, and I realized how much I hated working for other people. Eventually I plan to open my own venue

I don’t get their benefit over regular old drip tbqh. Both can presumably have the same quality (or lack of) grinds. Pod machines only make one cup at a time and generate a ton of waste in the process. Drip machines make anywhere from 1 to 12 cups for the cost of a paper filter. Pair it with a grinder and you can make enough decent coffee for a family in no time.

Obviously it won’t compare to nicer equipment, but we’re talking convenience here

Congratulations!! I’ll share the main tidbit of advice I share with other newer trans folk: transition is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s like learning a new language. Please keep that in mind and be kind to yourself

None. The majority of people don’t give a single fuck until something affects them directly, and will happily live under fascism as long as someone else is taking the brunt of it
