I think that’s one of the things: it’s hard enough to convince people to use Signal. It’s probably not the best choice, but I can get (some) people to use it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some Lemmy (non-ML) hive mind things that you don’t agree with?
28·1 day agoHome and Pro are by far the most common versions of Windows. Isn’t the position that “Enterprise and Server are fine” just whataboutism?
Self driving cars are only looking good because mass transit is not getting US investment. They have a ton of issues mass transit wouldn’t have. Isn’t that also just whataboutism?
Consider too that you generally need to push beyond an acceptable result towards a greater goal to make it happen. That’s one reason why I like Linux and trains. Aiming for status quo yields less than the status quo if another side is pulling further.
Thanks, need to look into this.

Empty words from a man who doesn’t even seem to understand his own product.
This is letting perfection be the enemy of progress. Lots of complaints, but what realistic alternative is there?

63·7 days agoIsn’t this simply a byproduct of the training data?
For conversations in US English or more generally sourced from USians that end up in training data, there will be supporters and deniers, as with any issue. Conversations about it outside of the US are likely to have far less conspiratorial support.
The model isn’t doing any critical thinking here… what mechanism would even support that under the hood? Feels like another thing that is only weird if you assume AI actually works like a human.

Technology@lemmy.world•Some iPhone Duo screens are already failingEnglish
59·10 days agoTbh, I figured Apple taking their time on these was because they were trying to improve the engineering over the Android folding screen offerings.
Now I wonder if they just wait because everyone assumes Apple would try and make it better, and then they just sell a bunch + the Apple tax, even though it’s just as bad of a product. Like, the marketing team just saying: “wait a couple years”.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•There's now over 200 Steam Frame Verified gamesEnglish
1·28 days agoHonestly this is impressive.
Valve has spent a lot of time trying to kill the Windows beast. These Frame standalone titles are running with an additional ARM translation layer on top (as I understand it – please correct me if wrong), so it isn’t trivial that they’re running locally on the device. There are implications for this down the road for other devices, considering how much ARM absolutely kills it versus x86 in the battery life department.
I’m planning to have a desktop rig plugged into the wall as long as I’m able, but it isn’t a stretch to say that the writing is on the wall in terms of power consumption (modulo any major breakthroughs on the x86 side).

Socialism@lemmy.ml•Why are people critical of democratic socialism?
5·1 month agoIt depends on who you ask.
If you mean USians, the word “socialist” has been involved in a decades-long campaign of propaganda. Any adjective you put before it will not matter. A whole class of people think it is evil a priori.
If you don’t mean in the US, then I don’t know. I hope it isn’t problematic in civilized countries.

Weird: didn’t see a point mentioned in your post. Maybe you should be explicit about it? It’s exceedingly hard to read minds on the internet.
