No one decides what linux is. Linux is literally open source. You have no idea what open source means if you think open source means one person owns Linux.

? They can patent it the way patents have always worked: Unique processes. Patents are not for vague ideas, they are for specific processes.
For example: ‘The Steam engine’ was never patented—anyone can make energy from steam and sell that. What was patented was a specific way of creating energy via steam, and you can’t use that method without infringing on IP.

We do owe them for making lemmy

Then ask your admins to defederate with wierdo instances. The dbzero admins have a track record of being open about defederation and being open to user opinion.

No one is begging IRC to take over discord but people still use it and it will never go away. Not everything has to be the most popular thing. I joined the fediverse over a decade ago and never left. It has only gotten more and more popular.

nothing wrong with being a normie

Ah I see what you mean, the way ‘bumping’ and ‘necro-ing’ used to be

nah sort by oldest first is the old experience;)

as a former staff engineer, now ‘just’ a senior, who’s had to resign from places like this, this guy drank the kool aid and is probably almost certainly a yes-man. I mean, a staff engineer with a direct like with the CEO like this? I’ve been in these kinds of places. It’s not one where you want to be a suck-up. I’ve been invited to ‘hackathons’ at a CEOs house over a weekend. Gladly declined. He sounds like someone who would go to those. I was engineer #15 at a startup. A staff level at proton he might be something like that at best, but I’d bet later for proton, unless they don’t have architects.

He is charismatic and good looking and not poor or middle class, he makes richer, older people (ie. voters) feel good about themselves, and is a Democrat in California.
None of those things are indicators of any kind of ethics or morality, but are all you need to become a politician.

both good and bad, that one. Lots of good for understanding life on earth (us included), lots of bad for how humans started treating skin color.

Yup. Lots of depressed of these days.

Lots of people struggle with things like dishes, which makes things like cooking not realistic or fun option. And getting out of that rut is hard.

I think so. If you want to target as many platforms as possible it isn’t a bad choice. JS is unmatched, imo, for prototyping applications as well as being capable of turning them into something worthy of shipping to production. Lots of resources, isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Server languages all compete for dominance in usage. JS doesn’t compete with anything and probably never will unless WASM really gets popular, which it isn’t close at all yet.

I’m flabbergasted at the amount of energy their occupation demands of them so much that it makes delivering naan and fries worth the cost in contrast to the time and energy savings it takes to get it yourself. Sounds like people are getting overworked or otherwise anxious. It’s not like people are doing it for the cost savings.

This is obviously a resounding win for the workers and customers, right?
Right?

as logical as a touchscreen blackberry with a physical keyboard and nipple, imho.

No one is born knowing how to do anything. No technology has ever made others look strange except for early adopters. No one chooses to ride a skateboard or bike over a car and gets looked at as someone who’s old school.
You have AI psychosis. Please seek treatment. You are capable of things, actually.
