Yes. SpaceX had their IPO and retirement accounts automatically bought the stock, according to their formulas. So the last thing regular people need is for these AI companies to do their IPO’s and have 401Ks starting buying them. Then they’ll cash out and leave everyone else holding the bag.

But even if they never go on the stock market, so many other stocks are tied to what happens to them that if they crash they’ll bring them down too. Especially Nvidia, but also lots of chip manufacturers and all kinds of other businesses related to hardware, data center construction, etc. Right now they’re making tons of profit from the spending of all that borrowed money and some of them, like Nvidia, are investing right back into the AI companies. It’s a house of cards that’s going to screw us all. 2008 will seem like a minor blip by comparison. 😭

These fucking companies are not only borrowing and spending such obscene amounts of money they’re going to crash the economy, they’re also forcing everyone else to spend huge amounts of their own time and money to try and deal with their activity.

From banks, online vendors and other businesses, to websites constantly being scraped and effectively DDOS’ed, to software project maintainers being inundated with pull requests, these things are making all our lives hell.

They’re terrified of the thought of being held accountable for anything.

I’m curious how they detect that it’s a bot doing something on the user’s account rather than the actual user. Do the bots identify as such somehow?

The top priority of a police force is and has always been to protect the property of the wealthy and corporations.

I tried it out but TBH it’s not a good UI, at least on a desktop browser. There’s a sidebar that takes up 20% of the screen that you can’t close or collapse, if you click on a business or something, it appears in the left sidebar but then you can’t get rid of it, and there are several pop-up floating tiles that you can’t close covering the lower part of the map.

More importantly, I can’t find a Layers icon or any way to turn on this Surveillance layer or any other layer. No help button to find out how to use it. I searched for their help page separately and there’s nothing on it about layers at all. So maybe this only applies to their phone app, which seems like a weird choice.

I think it’s great what they’re doing with this surveillance layer (if I could find it) and the not renaming stuff, but for now Open Street Map has a much better interface.

We’re now thinking of switching to BSD. But I’m hoping enough kernel maintainers and others will move to a fork of the last pre-LLM-touched kernel(s) ASAP.
