that sure was quick of them

deezer nuts

no idea. how do people even come up with that?

yet another proof that middle managers aren’t sentient
don’t think i’ve ever worked for a company that hosts customer data. we develop and build products, customer purchases product, transaction over.

i was more thinking about how the article says the data centres are literally eating houses, but yeah that too
you can’t really justify the hosting costs if you have less than 5000 employees

As the news station notes, a data center of that size would consume the equivalent of 560,000 average homes.
literally cannibalising communities
i’m not opposed to machine learning in general, i don’t think anyone here is. i am myopically opposed to large language models. no other form of machine learning is causing the damage they currently are.
i’ve used machine learning techniques in my code for many years. llms are awful at seeing and applying those techniques.
anything the model ingests leaves the premises. that’s a leak.
it’s interesting how years of security hardening and multi-tier firewall infrastructure to prevent code leaks is all going out the window, isn’t it?
this is exactly what free software was supposed to prevent, and open source explicitly disagreed with. thanks a ton eric, you maga hat wearing piece of shit
talking like the legal battles are already won. the way i read it, the stuff that comes out of those things is all public domain. if the profession is dead, so are proprietary software systems.
i have no idea what you are trying to say.
doesn’t really help you when any proprietary code crossing the network boundary is a security breach.
embedded systems, signal analysis, weird edgecasey lisp stuff…
if it helps, they are completely unusable for specialised development.
