The hardware to run them on an individual level is relatively cheap, the required passthrough for anthropic/openAI is that they reclaim their training costs.

There is no chargeable “real cost”. Chinese companies are making highly effective distilled models that can run on any decent hardware. The second the AI companies start cranking up the cost, methods of using the free models will come forward.
So basically we have a technology that puts everyone out of a job and doesn’t even make any money for the producers. Stunning.

Technology@lemmy.world•Solar Panels Are Now Producing So Much Power That They’re Leaving Nuclear Plants in the Dust: "Solar is now the engine of the power transition."English
5·7 days agoI’m all in on solar for most places.
Sure it uses a bit more land, but it makes no noise, no pollution, there’s zero risk of an accident, no targets for terrorism and your grid isn’t completely shut down if it is somehow turned offline.
You don’t depend on others for your own resilience. No need for oil, gas or uranium.
Unless you live in the high northern latitudes, there is almost no reason to not be building a durable and resilient battery-renewable grid

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI Safety Is Mostly A Sex Cult In Berkeley, California
13·12 days agoI agree that they are a really creepy bunch of people with very large egos, but I’m not sure about it being an organised cult.
I will say that I would absolutely hate to receive an invite to these disgustingly crusty orgies.

All you have to do as a CEO is shut the fuck up and let your product do the talking. The less I hear about your shit views the more likely I am to stay with your product.
