Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is there a way to not see duplicate of the same topic across different communities?English
21·2 days agoI’m not insulting anyone(edit: that was because of a typo, see other reply). I don’t want to argue. I’m simply saying that the position or preference is subjective: neither I or you can make an objective argument of why someone ought or oughtn’t to cross-post.The simple proof is that you’re unhappy about cross-postings – and surely I have no right to say that you should be happy about them instead. And at the same time I am happy about cross-postings – and you have no right to say that I should be unhappy about them instead.

61·2 days agoI could completely reverse your argument, insisting on why you should do differently.
It’s completely subjective.

151·2 days agoThis would break the way many users use Lemmy & Co. I’m happy about users that cross-post.
I only follow communities I subscribe to. Let’s say I follow B but don’t follow A. If a user posts something related to topic A and topic B only in a community A, which I don’t follow, I would miss information interesting to me. When the user cross-posts to community B as well, then I’ll also see that useful post.
Also, even the same topic/community appears on different instances, and some users may not even be aware of the same community in other instances. They would miss useful or interesting information without cross-posting.

37·3 days agoI generally agree with your sentiment. But let’s see some possibly positive sides at the same time:
- Maybe this will encourage or entice people within or outside that wall to come to places like Lemmy.
- And maybe will encourage people on Lemmy and similar platforms to share even more.
- As time passes, a lot of that knowledge and information there becomes obsolete. This is something I’m strongly noticing also on StackExchange for example.
But from now on they’ll get shit 💪
Indeed, there is a built-in setting to show messages as ‘original html’ or ‘simplified html’ or ‘plain text’.
But even if you choose ‘original html’, external elements are not downloaded, unless you positively answer the warning (above the message) to download them. Any images you might still see are embedded in the message itself, not externally downloaded.
I think Thunderbird by default does not load external content. Mine always warns me whether I want to allow for remote content when I open a new email, and possibly whether I want to always allow it for a particular sender. I never do.
Check the settings, and possibly reset that option.

32·12 days ago“EU member states approve…” Always this vague wording so as to imply some sort of democracy. It’s the EU oligarchy that has approved this.
Could they claim “EU citizens approve…”? Of course not.
Fuck the EU oligarchy, and even more fuck us EU sheep citizens that don’t rebel against this. We get what we silently accept. Let’s bow our heads.

I was being sarcastic. EU is anything but democratic.
We must remember that EU is a democracy (not): therefore this is what the majority of EU citizens want.

PS: “insulting” was a phone typo, sorry! 🙏 makes no sense :) I meant “insisting” or “arguing”.
