It’s a great source of protein, and cheap.

31·1 day agoIt’s not strictly necessary to run Linux, there’s also the BSDs, PonyOS, 9front, etc.

3·1 day agoTbh, there are some horny people here too, Miisha for example, but they have soul. Soulful horniness.
We should all switch to using one-time pads. Sure, it’s not as convenient, but I assume everyone will understand.
I also would like to see a CEO who is more on board with fighting big tech. I dislike that reddit is their go-to forum, that the linux drive client has taken forever, etc. Andy seems more interested in the business side and less the stated values of the foundation. I don’t know how much of that is necessary vs detrimental
“10 years ago, Republicans were the party of big business and Dems stood for the little guys. But today the tables have completely turned. People forget that the current antitrust actions against Big Tech were started under the first Trump admin.”
In retrospect, it was obvious that Trump would side with Big Tech in the end. And the quote is a bit kiss-ass-y. It’s also noting that the Dems didn’t do as much as the Republicans. That’s critique against the Dems, and well earned. Personally, I think we all have a moral obligation to point out that Trump in total has made the world worse in so many ways, but I also don’t think Andy is a fascist and all those things people write about him.
He supported Gail Slater, who has a track record of trying to break up big-tech monopolies. She was appointed by Trump. And he pointed out that the Democrats could have tried too, but when they were in power they didn’t. Of course, when she actually tried to break up big-tech she was stopped, got into a fight with Pam Bondi, and quit her job in protest.
I certainly do not consider myself an ally of the US.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Seems CEO Andy Yen is a snowflake that had to censor the thousands of user voice requests for his removal; (update) they were just moved to generalEnglish
14·5 days agoI also see it in General. In the interest of factualness and truth maybe you should edit your submission to make that clear?
How long has it been in closed beta?
I use cloud storage (lots of files), email, password manager, and vpn. Sometimes collaborative writing in documents. I’d like to not have lots of subscriptions. Maybe managed nextcloud + separate email provider? Idk.

2·10 days agoUnless a rate hike is deemed necessary despite a weak job market due to the bond yields… JPow always mentioned the dual mandate, but I wonder which of them is more important right now.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do You Only Use Lemmy Or Do You Use Another Fediverse Thing And Why Did You Become A Fediverse/Lemmy Use?English
2·12 days agoHah, that describes it well. I guess it works for more “announcement”-type posts that aren’t meant to be discussed much. I can scroll through it and see that there’s an upcoming conference, that someone wrote an article with a link to it, that someone made a pizza, that someone is upset over a recent event, etc. It’s like reading the news.

3·13 days agoI also use mastodon, but I find that I rarely reply to people there. Am I thinking about it wrong, it’s like whatever I write will be on the same level of visibility as top level posts, but everything mixed up in a big pile? I don’t really get it.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•What is the most active/popular fediverse project?English
1·1 month agoMastodon is more centered around specific people you choose to follow, everything is in chronological order, regardless of topic or if it’s a reply to someone else. Lemmy has threaded replies and the topic is more in focus.

My father was a hunter many years ago, until he realized that what he actually enjoyed was nature, being outdoors, seeing animals, etc. So he started bringing a camera instead of a rifle.
