Looks like it’s an option you have to turn on or can turn off.

This is a good point. You lose existing users through attrition. How do you attract new subscribers to a site they cannot see?
They could leave the front top 50 posts of the day available as an attractor. With a “sign up to see more” banner at the end of the scroll. Is current leadership smart enough to do that?

I wonder how advertisers on Reddit will respond to this? It will certainly result in less ad views.

I imagine this will backfire at some point when something gets transcribed incorrectly, and causes harm to a patient, or a doctor claims that they never said what is attributed to them. And the resulting lawsuit(s) will put an end to this trend.

I wonder if this decision will affect home insurance rates?

If it’s really “AI-assisted” it’s gonna be fun when it malfunctions. Will the store honor that pricing when the steak rings up for a penny?

Why is the vehicle allowed on the sidewalk to begin with?

We’re supposed to believe this was a ”bug”? 😂
Maybe in the eavesdropping definition of that word.

Your comment reminded me of the Thingmaker by Mattel. A toy featuring an exposed hot plate that Wikipedia says got up to 390 degrees F.

If Oracle pops, does this affect the WBD/Paramount/Skydance deal?

Too small to ask for a government bailout.

Robots can work well in warehouses. Amazon’s have been a success, for example. This just sounds like whomever WalMart hired to design this didn’t know what they were doing and Walmart got screwed. Maybe they tried to automate the wrong tasks, or leaned too heavily on the sales pitch of “AI magic” rather than understanding what they were buying.
The article also mentions Kroger’s failed dive into automation. From what I can find online, the automation worked, but it was a flop because it was expensive and underutilized — it wasn’t worth the money spent because it was focused on filling online orders that dried up.

Windows 11 certainly can’t be helping.
Why would ChatGPT use phrases like “weird” and “call the police” and all these stupid emoji?
