The Contact section on their Cloud privacy policy has a lumarylabs.com email address, and sure enough that site says Lumary Labs is based in the US.

I think the way Cory Doctorow put it is Facebook is betting people love their friends and family more than they hate Mark Zuckerberg.

Europe@feddit.org•‘It’s only when you see 49-ton trucks in China running on batteries that you realize how serious electrification is’: Octopus Energy CEO Greg Jackson on Europe’s incumbency problemEnglish
101·4 days agoMore context:
“Incumbents crowd out the innovators in many sectors and markets,” Jackson said. “It wasn’t the Post Office [the U.K.’s public mail service] that invented email. The music industry held back streaming and digital music for 10 to 20 years. What you need is routes to market for new technologies, and I think that can be a challenge in Europe because so many of the big industries essentially have a stranglehold on policy.
“Economists have said that nearly all productivity growth comes from new companies. If we want more growth, we need to allow creative destruction so new companies can deliver the productivity we need.”
I think the target of the “creative destruction” here is the companies holding back growth in electrification.
Apparently Blackstone is expecting Anthropic to receive a high junk rating, i.e. not investment-grade, after the IPO. Maybe all those risk factors actually matter.

6·6 days agoTuta is currently looking into using AI in development
The current Tuta apps are built more than 99% without AI, but we are currently testing whether it makes sense to use AI tools to help developers speed up repetitive processes and increase efficiency overall. The goal of Tuta is to bring privacy to everyone and for that the Tuta apps must become much more feature-rich and competitive with Big Tech equivalents (eg Gmail)

33·12 days agoNetflix actually ended up with an increase in subscribers from their crackdown. Maybe Spotify did learn from Netflix.
Netflix tweeted in March of 2017 that “Love is sharing a password” before launching its own enforcement policies in May of 2023. Later that year, Netflix raised prices up to 17 percent, and by April of 2024, the company saw the policy pay off with 9.3 million added subscriptions and a 54 percent bump in operating income.
