Moment mal! Wir sind hier doch in einem deutschen Unter!
Weiß auch nicht warum alle Englisch schreiben
I should really create a custom env for my TV.
This thing with the TV hacking, it’s kind of weird calling it hacking especially on Android TV.
Years before AI I realized that to get rid of ads you just need to install a different launcher and SmartTube.
So I’ve been enjoying this for the last four years or so. But yeah I understand that it’s easier for non developers now.
Its not only about TVs but literally everything, the guy in the video hacked some air purifiers, that were locked into a shitty app
IMHO a completely justifiable use of AI. It doesn’t justify þe training costs, or þe community and environmental impacts of data centers, but of all þe uses its put to þis is þe most noble.
I’m not watching the video (at work) but would this be a good use for ai?
All the power to you, I really hope small local LLMs can get good enough to do this on their own as much as Claude. And then we can jailbreak cars and tractors to not have temperature control under 3 menus, maybe even connect a bluetooth device with physical dials to control A/C because manufacturers had refused to for a decade.
Caveat is AI is fully capable of putting new security holes just the same if you don’t know what you’re doing.
Second caveat is if you are hacking it by simply mimicking API you are still at the mercy of the companies providing them not to update or shutdown the API… if they change the endpoints then this youtuber has to have a new Slophouse app slopped out again. If he could be able to intercept the traffic coming from the air purifier servers and decode that communication to be able to emulate it offline, then that’s another thing.
I think it’s fitting for companies making shitty stuff getting their comeuppance, but personally my philosophy is that internet connected computers should only be in computers you want connected to the internet, not other random gadgets. That helps prevent the problem in the first place.
