Trump’s party stripped of control after he spent weeks pleading with Americans to pretend he was on ballot

Donald Trump has been dealt a devastating blow to his authority in a night of crushing defeats in the midterm elections, which saw his Republican party stripped of control of the Senate and the House as his handpicked “Maga” candidates were swept away by a blue tsunami.

The president spent weeks before the election pleading with the American people to pretend he was on the ballot. He may now rue that tactic: the American people took him at his word, and delivered him a bloody nose of historic proportions, flinging his presidency into lame duck status.

He appeared last night to have changed his mind, declaring on social media: “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!”

Unbelievable how many historically red states voted liberal in this election. Kansas, Ohio, Iowa, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas…

My kudos to everyone who lives there who made this happen

Edit: Mississippi and Alaska are fighting too

I don’t know why people seem to forget that Ohio used to be considered a swing state. They are not “historically red,” which is why it always bothered me that Ohio was hopelessly red according to some people.

Living here I can tell you it feels so much more red. Maga bullshit did a number on people and extreme gerrymandering hasn’t helped.

I’d long to be purple. Sadly I feel this is an aberration but I’ll take the reprieve. Voters here need to wake up permanently and not just vote every so often when it’s terrible enough.

I mean, I used to live in Columbus. Didn’t feel very red to me, for obvious reasons, but the point is that your viewpoint can easily change based on the slice of Ohio you get to see. My impression in Columbus is you either had people who were clearly blue or people that didn’t seem to care. I’m sure the same is true just outside of Columbus if you switch “red” in for “blue.”

Still living here sure, blue in cities. But naga turned some places way more red, most certainly formerly blue union areas like around Youngstown, etc. That and the red fervor is just turned up to 10.

Well, that and all the gerrymandering and other election fuckery. And the Supreme Court just deciding how Florida voted instead of actually counting the ballots.
