I always loved the 4-color disc Q-bert would utilize to get back to the top!!

That ad style is one of my favorites. I’ve always enjoyed arrays of selections–especially when it comes to video games. I think the box for the Atari 7800 had like 20 different screenshots from various games on the back, i spent a lot of time looking at them 🙂

    Edit: it did!!! 😆😆😆

Q*bert was one of the oh-so-rare games that transitioned from the arcade to the home and stayed pretty faithful.

I have the tabletop mini arcade cabinet of this, with a color VFD. Vacuum fluorescent display, the same type used in older microwaves or VCRs, in which you can still see all the unlit segments.

I remember paying 100DM (~€50,-) for that one (vc2600) back then. Which would be like 5 trillion moneyz today, or something like that.

Ahhh sweet memories…played that sucker for months

Curiosity got the better of me. (100 DM = Deutsche Mark, Western German currency in 1986 when the vc2600 released) is € 112,69 as of today.

By far not the difference in inflation I suspected.

Does not sound as high as expected, but 100DM at that time sure felt like a LOT compared to what measly value 50€ have (basically none).

And it didn’t feel that much just because I was a kid. My allowance was higher than what minimum wage is. I was a spoiled brat.

Being a Schilling kid, yeah, let’s say 500 or even 1000 ÖS felt like a fortune. Found one of my grandmother’s old snack bar menus from 1991 the other day. Small beer 5 Schilling and 50 Groschen. Holy Alcoholism.

Isn’t that indexed from 2001, the last year the DM was a currency? It still seems low to me, I’d guess inflation to be about 1.5-2 times higher. But, the Atari VC2600 was from the early 80’s, so that’s a lot more inflation on top.

Then it’s way too low IMO. You could buy 25 beers at a bar for 25 DM back then, which will be about € 75 today. The least extreme examples have at least quadrupled since.
