  • I think mail-in vote eligibility for Mississippi is pretty limited.

Also, I’m not from that state, but I recall a while ago there was some sense that the federal government was going to try and mess with votes by fucking with the post office. Some of what they tried failed in the courts, but I decided I’d vote in person to avoid that particular problem, so there might be other people who decided in-person was most likely to get their vote counted.

  • Applegate said that while everyone in her life was relieved, her reaction to the news was that she was “not happy at all,” noting, “You don’t get misdiagnosed and then all of a sudden I’m better. I haven’t gotten better, Jamie. If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways. So I’m back at square one, that I don’t know what’s going on with me.”

From the USA Today article. I gather this is really common reaction for people with chronic or progressive illnesses, when they find out they don’t have the terrible thing they were misdiagnosed with. Like, everyone else is all “yay! no MS!” and the person who is still experiencing the symptoms that led to the misdiagnosis is like “ok, but I’m not suddenly healthy, and now I have to start over.” You can at least plan things when you know what you have.

Her symptoms sound really bad, too, and if there’s a treatment for what she does have, she’s not getting it.

  • Yeah, the last thing I remember about pillowfort is their security issues, and I hang out on Tumblr (a space it was designed as an alternative for). People weren’t recommending it anymore after that, like they used to.

I tried it out before then, but it didn’t hit for me. I’ve tried a million alternate ljs and tumblrs, so that says nothing about its quality. If you go on social media and no one wants to talk with you about what you want to talk about, it seems like a waste of time and effort.

It’s a shame when independent projects like this close down, but if not enough people stepped up to help when help was needed, burnout was inevitable, and burnout can only be ignored for so long. Better to close it down like this than in a more dramatic way.

The type of people who went on pillowfort might actually be interested in fediverse alternatives. They’ll reconnect on dreamwidth, probably, and post where they can be found. If Wafrn has what pillowfort users want and, more importantly, if their friends from there want to try it out with them, it could be a healthy boost of furries, lady fandom nerds, and lgbt+ people to the fediverse.
