Later this month, the newly elected House Democrats will gather behind closed doors to anoint their candidate to run in the January election for speaker. Nobody is seen posing a serious threat to Jeffries, according to multiple Democratic aides.
This should change. I don’t even know who the other options are? I saw someone (onion owner) suggest Raskin, but mostly just talk about schumer and jeffries needing to go.
Yeah, I don’t for the life of me understand why the progressive wing doesn’t just say “fuck that” and just refuse to line up behind the establishment. This is actually a perfect time for a Democratic Party schism, now that the legislature has been wrested from the fascists (I know, there’s still certification and swearing in, but I’d consider challenges in those domains to be kind of intrinsically extralegal). The DCCC old guard got us here, and it’s well past time we took away their keys and drivers license.
The large Democratic wave (spurred in no small part by the progressive wing) may actually work against them, because if the Democratic majority is really more than 40 seats (as is currently projected), then that means that they can afford to lose 20 or 30 members and still get their agenda through. So those far left politicians don’t really have a lot of leverage if they want to buck the leadership.
They’re not really “far left”. In most other countries, they’d probably be considered centrist, and in some cases, center-right.
Anyways: part of what I hope happens here is that the DCCC establishment understands that they’re being put on notice, and that at least some reps accept that the political winds have materially changed.

Point of order:
They’re not really “far left”. In most other countries, they’d probably be considered centrist, and in some cases, center-right.

Raskin has been putting in a lot of good work investigating corruption. I think he would be a good pick.
