181·16 hours agoWe don’t have to, the government can literally take their money if we collectively decide to. Personally, I think “no billionaires” is a pretty good policy. Once someone’s net worth hits $999M, the government takes all their income above that amount, taxes any gifts they receive at 100% of their value, takes all their capital gains, etc.

They’ve called 5 more for Democrats. There are 17 races left to call, and Dems are ahead in 10 of them, but Dems only need 3 more to take the Texas House. That the Texas House is going to flip is all but a certainty at this point.

The Texas Tribune is going by official projections issued by the AP. The AP didn’t call some races last night until well after the losers had conceded. For many of these House races, the outcomes are almost certain, just not quite certain enough for the AP to make the official call
Democrats not only won the Texas governor’s race, but also lieutenant governor, attorney general, agricultural commissioner, railroad commissioner, multiple state supreme court and state board of education seats, and flipped the Texas House blue. We’re facing an entirely new state government in Texas and I’m here for it.

This right here is how all of this will come crashing down. Anthropic and OpenAI, along with several associated companies, are using accounting tricks to hide their debts and obligations. These two are trying to maintain hype for investors so they can cash in on an IPO with total disregard for long-term fiscal sustainability. At some point the bill will come due, and you can bet the C-Suite will have already made out like bandits.
Everyone in Austin knows where this house is. All his neighbors have beef with what he’s done there and it’s been in the news. I doubt he ever goes there based on what I’ve read.
(Technically it’s in Westlake, which is a wealthy, white suburb that incorporated itself decades ago to avoid being annexed by the city of Austin. A lot of “fiscal conservatives” there.)

I just really have to disagree here. Growing up in the 90s, blatant misogyny was utterly pervasive throughout our culture. Now raising a son, sometimes 90s (or earlier) media comes on and the sexist tropes make me cringe.
While the internet has enabled a loud subgroup of misogynists to organize, the culture among young people in the real world that I observe daily is waaay more accepting and progressive than the predominant culture 30 years ago.
