the funeral baked meats must coldly furnish forth the pitchdeck
Am I having a stroke?
First time reading RPS? They’re what’s left of a humor blog after all the actual humorists left. It’s nothing but awkward attempts at randomness and making constant references to the time when they were still good.
It sucks, because 15-20 years ago they were one of the best sites to follow for PC gaming. Now they’re a hollow shell of their former self that thinks being “quirky” and filling their posts with impenetrable in-jokes is a substitute for good writing.
I fucking hate RPS. They have some of the absolute worst headlines too, and have a weird aversion to actually saying what game they’re writing about in said headline.
and have a weird aversion to actually saying what game they’re writing about in said headline.
That’s clickbait. They think leaving out info will get more people to open the article.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. Their headlines are often unparseable for me.
I mean, I don’t want to be too cruel but Bioware’s last two games were Veilguard and Anthem. I don’t think it’s too surprising that fans of the Mass Effect franchise aren’t necessarily interested in seeing the team take another crack at it. When your last game that was considered “good” was over 10 years ago, and even then Inquisition is controversial, it’s hard to maintain die-hard fans that’ll stick up for you in a situation like this.
Tbf, that’s still ea’s fault. Almost all of the original talent behind their successes left bc of the direction ea forced them.
Their biggest names are already working elsewhere and making good things (fingers crossed)
Also, EA is owned by a company indistinguishable from the Saudi Gov and the head is the guy who had Jamal Khashoggi murdered for criticizing him. They should be boycotted and no one should give them money for anything.
People need to mod PS3 BF3 to play multiplayer to avoid giving both gross Sony and EA money.
Your wish is granted!
Sold to Tencent. A mobile game will be released within two weeks.
A finger on the venture capital monkey paw curls.
I’d at least consider playing a Mass Effect gacha and I don’t care who knows it, the hornier the better
A odd blessing of the mess that is IP law, but someone could comfortably make a mass effect hentia gotcha game with little consideration for who ever owns not hentia mass effect.
Even with 10,000,000 signatures and 5,000,000 paid pre-orders there’s less than a 5% chance it’ll be good.
Quality art comes from inspiration. You cannot buy inspiration.
You’ll be better off writing a story yourself using Twine or Narrat software that allows you to create branching narratives. I’m sure it is a ton of work to get a full story ready.
Meaning you give GTA6 a 5% chance of getting an average score over 50%?
I welcome you to go to https://www.metacritic.com/browse/game/all/all/2025/metascore/ and see how many years back you have to go for the top rated game that year to not be a sequel. Or for the most expensive game made that year to not be in the top 3.2024: Astro Bot
2022: Elden Ring
2021: The House in Fata Morgana - Dreams of the Revenants Edition -
I didn’t have to go back all that far. I’m not looking for the most expensive game each year though, that seems tedious.
Those are sequels too. Astro Bot is part of the Astro Bot IP. Astro’s Playroom was a pack-in game with early PS5s in fact. Elden Ring is arguable if you think it’s new IP or if the popularity is due to being linked to the Dark Souls IP. I didn’t count it when I thumbed through, but if you feel differently then that would be the answer.
The House in Fata Morgana - Dreams of the Revenants Edition - is a remake of The House in Fata Morgana.
Astro Bot is part of the Astro Bot IP
I’m not too familiar with the playstation library, so that one’s my bad. Elden ring is similar to dark souls, but not a sequel and The House in Fata Morgana is a remaster/rerelease, not a sequel. Before those, it’s pretty sparse till around 2000, unless you also count The Last of Us Remastered as not a sequel, which it’s not.
The main point I was making was that these ‘sure bets’ resonate with people. It’s not just the money people throwing money at the wrong projects. Audiences (or at least the critics listed by metacritic) like the same things the publishers like: What they’ve seen before, but now with a larger budget.
lol you’re comparing GTA to mass effect. One is a cultural event while the other is having online petitions to have someone, anyone work on it.
When was the last time that Biowate was a market leading developer?
I’m saying the reason GTA6 exists is because it’s profitable. No one was inspired to make GTA6 before Strauss Zelnick, and he does not even care what’s in. GTA6 was inevitable when GTA5 was profitable. If inspiration was a larger indicator of quality than money or skill, then your statement would be reversed. But it’s obvious that GTA6 has a higher chance of being good, because the initial spark actually doesn’t matter much.
Rockstar has had some very good writing since GTA4. They don’t have the baggage of customers seeing their quality drop with each new release for 20 years like BioWare did.
It’s almost as if Rockstar and BioWare have been in opposite trajectories for those 20 years.
So… EA astro turfing?
Definitely has that smell to it. “See, it’s still a popular and valuable IP, it’ll be a reliable return on investment” to drive up the asking price as they look to lease or sell the IP to other studios/publishers.
Til Owlcat is making an Expanse based game!
That’ll be exciting!
220,000 signatures better spent on the stop killing games initiative then hoping EA will “do the right thing”.
It’s a little pointless saving the IP if someone else is going to build it. You cannot reproduce the old flavour with new people.
