One of my acquaintances told me that he uses AI to mass-produce college notes of subjects he himself doesn’t know to capitalize on people who will buy them.

Unfortunately I’ve seen a lot of people are buying his notes. I think this is a terrible thing to do. It’s not only immoral but you’re making people study on potential AI slop which will compound over the years and that will result in a degradation of the humans’ knowledge on the topic in my opinion.

Do not trust online college notes, especially if they’re paywalled. There’s infinite free knowledge online.

Before AI you were best to go visit Wikipedia.

Today, anyone paying for this sort of thing is just a griftable fool that was going to lose their money anyways.

I mean, sure people shouldn’t try to scam others, but cheaters never prosper. Whether they buy AI generated notes or the human made notes, the buyer’s not actually doing the learning.

They should just read the text book and ask questions in class.

Fuck you, that’s a complete red herring and you know it.

Text books are not the same as notes.

If you’re in a college class, then you’ve already paid to be there. Show up to fucking classes, pay attention, and take your own damn notes.

And if textbook costs are such an issue, then do what my classmates did: figure out how to fucking pirate them. Don’t pay some twatwaffle on the internet that’s generating LLM slop.

I want to add that the fact that these notes are AI-generated is hidden to the users who bought them. They think they’re buying from a legitimate person

Not disclosed, sure, but is it really hidden? I’m willing to bet money that the product description and listing photos are slop.

Someone really needs to stop your friend before they destroy the sum total of human knowledge with their beer hustle.

      haha

I clearly mean that the more people (both sellers and buyers) do this crap, the worse it becomes.

I have a beer hustle and it doesn’t revolve around scamming people.

Lazy people who want to avoid studying in college have been being taken advantage of since the beginning of academia. Adding AI doesn’t change anything, humanity’s knowledge has survived lazy students and fake notes it can survive fabricated notes.
