Any Idea what type of charging port this is, I thought it was ye old Mini B, but its too thick. We’re having a clearout and found our old Camcorder, the model is a Luminox LXDV750 12.0 MEGA MAX, can anyone help me find this port?
Man the only good trend in modern tech is the homogenization of cables. Huntington down proprietary single use cables that are usually just for charging is such a fucking nightmare. Woe to anyone with a device that relies on FireWire.
(And it’s not even a new trend—looking at you: 1/4inch plug 😒)
ITT: So many confidently incorrect comments
Prolly custom but it does look similar to this cable I got from a Panasonic DMC-FZ18

I did some research on this and it looks like a U-8 cable to me. Seems like it was popular with digital camera back in the day and I think I even have one kicking around somewhere. If you look there are 8 pins in that connector which would rule out FireWire and standard USB 2.0 connectors. I think this device is likely too old to have HDMI and from what I’ve seen it can actually output composite video from the 3.5 mm jack. Check out U-8 and you might even be able to find a 3.5 mm jack to composite cable that works for video out.
If it’s not this, it could also be the uc-e6 cable Nikon came up with, that a bunch of other companies also used on their cameras. Also 8 pins, about this size, usb on the other end.
You may be right.

I’ve got the same results: 8 pin mini-usb. Found a listing in Germany that has a shot of the cable. That one has a standard USB-A (not what yours is) but the thing to note is that it’s USB on one side and component plugs on the other: https://www.ebay.de/itm/407220939580
Edit: actually, what I found doesn’t look like U-8, but it does look like your port. Here’s a link on the Evil Empire with pictures: https://www.amazon.com/SNLLMZI-Ferrite-anti-interference-Olympus-Panasonic/dp/B0H8R53VC2
Oddly enough the way I found out about this connector is that for some reason they decided to use them on some Steel Series gaming headsets. Of course the connector is recessed, so you can only use their specially shaped cable. Guess they did ok with the design because I’ve probably been using the headset for close to a decade
This.
i think i found it: https://pinoutguide.com/DigitalCameras/micro_usb_8pin_camera_pinout.shtml
non standard micro usb 8pin, check the site if your camcorder is on that list

it also kinda looks like a 8 pin variant of the usb mini a-b connector,
This ebay listing has a picture of the box and that says USB 2.0.
It’s not USB mini-B as you found, nor normal USB B, for that it’s too small. Nor is it Firewire like many here claim for some reason when the shape is clearly off. Mini HDMI and Micro HDMI are too new, so that’s also a bad suggestion.
I think it’s probably the proprietary 8-pin mini USB originally by Nikon, also known as UC E6
Update: we’ve found the barrel connector plug for it, so we can charge it, though i’ll get a new battery, thats been sitting in a cupboard for around 14 years or so
That looks proprietary.
A lot of companies back in the mid-2000s would take a USB cable and make a custom head.
This meant that you always had to go through the manufacturer to get a replacement. It would ensure that the cable would always meet spec, but it also meant that no one could make cheaper replacements.
Similar models are documented to use a combined USB/av port for video prior. Batteries are usually charged externally.
Looks like micro HDMI to me.

Yes, also called HDMI type D

Not the right era and much to big. Micro HDMI is on a raspberry pi. This is the time of camcorders. This is the time of yellow, white and red video auto (av) cables and video recorders for your TV.
niet
OP’s socket is female FireWire 400
Edit: OK, maybe not
Better Flash-shot down the port

Its probably FireWire. Old camcorders used that. Listen to the other comment mentioning FireWire 400.
Firewire is not shaped like that and doesn’t have enough pins.
You’re right. It actually looks like the cable in this eBay listing:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/256497399057?itmprp=cksum%3A256497399057ae9ba5477c7d4a73892b9c549a34b708|enc%3AAQALAAABIBA59BGb3nKPoUn3dA5wvjtFkr0XIzzhTL7G82EDoRHeXwJucBnUWDVV0HG7caRyS%252BShp5dxXB7HoCE8FektVGRp6yP248wqsW4eheIhr2C%252Bv4vTH9rEtcuKOuRy7O1OuTKy6hT1CEanvLdoM4Pr2mDHMgBWlg0ChJCGBfXUXWYgvV5Si454k8FQUL6MkIy5KqJ0GZQBIxT1BP6OTyNHQZwUflD8SmhFhAZ5Cmgie7z3EkDMTIHOBILg4gmpmsOdABi%252BYpBesf40VIpbkTila1b%252FlKI5ojd6z%252Bhk80oyFHNXxsilTc%252BQYJQfgQH91BpLTWj5FtZbL7egYsZr69FBKkllDf6U57dgYrG97F7DnrHbzt08k%252FVBU7Ry3AvTMedp6Q%253D%253D|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2332490&itmmeta=01M6W2NSN4GTG7G62PMBXJHXBC
Mini DisplayPort?
Not even close.
Looks like it, matches the socket shape exactly.

(Lot of people having trouble knowing which part of this mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to focus on. Either way, not mini-DisplayPort, just something that looks frustratingly identical to it.)
miniDV to HDMI?
nooooo
Side by side

maybe Firewire. That was the high speed wire back in the day, popular with video production and MacOS.
Firewire looked very different from this
it’s not firewire
Close. It seems to be mini-DisplayPort, which is the successor to FireWire. There is a mini-FirreWire, but the shape is different.
