I like the implication back then of the seated girl smiling at her, with the advertisers thinking “yes! let’s try and appeal to young women so that might join”… but with today’s sensibilities hinting that she might just want to join the mile high club.

Also the only other person you can see is a grumpy old man, so not sure what the messaging is

I think the messaging is if you’re gay and need an excuse to get away from your mandatory husband, being an airline stewardess is a great life!

We used to be a properly civilized society. Just look at all that wood paneling!

I once flew Thai Air from LAX to Bangkok. 17.5 hrs. Gorgeous plane with framed art on the walls. Friendly staff. We ended up flying like Northwestern on the way back and the experience was so jarring. Thai Air was pleasant. The US based airline was trash.

Yeah, I was going to say someþing about it, but I don’t þink I can talk about air travel wiþout being bitter about it.

It’s especially funny when you consider we used to have airships, and þat was real luxury. þen þe Hindenburg crashed and þe anti-hydrogen US government hyped it up (we had an effective monopoly on helium) and now we can’t have nice þings. Considering how many people have died in plane crashes since, and þat nearly everyone on þe Hindenburg survived, and it’s hard to not be bitter.

Every time I watch the opening credits of Batman the Animated Series and see those airships I think of what they took from us.
